Beautiful views from a home maximising the terrain for its design.
The brief was to create a building that maximised the connection with the views, create a garden on the high side of the site and to minimise views over neighbouring buildings and therefore the concept is based on the idea of keeping maximal of the original slope. It was achieved by distribution of homes into two materials. First is heavy, concrete, emotionally “growing up” from the slope and forming a platform for a second, largely glassed object of the upper floors.
The property is situated on a standard block very close to intersection of Gilbert Road and Old Northern Road, Glenhaven. The site rectangular in shape and the site falls from northern to the southern boundary. Under the 88B instrument, the subject site is restricted to provide 18 m Frontage setback due to potential road widening of Gilbert Road in the future. The proposed ground floor has been designed as a split level and has slab on ground construction that is to be built with minimal cut/fill to reduce the impact this development will have on neighbouring properties. The decision was to create a outdoor front yard with the swimming pool at the front of the site rather than the traditional backyard. A Pool Cabana house was designed to take advantage of the magnificent views to Blue mountains and the Hills District area.
